CALLING ALL MIDNIGHT MASS DISCIPLES
Hi Ghouls—Peaches Christ here.
Once upon a midnight Geary, a little drag show at the Bridge Theatre grew into a full-blown cult. You showed up in wigs, blood, and questionable footwear (Martiny), screamed along with your favorite movies, and together we turned a creaky Inner Richmond cinema into our very own church of cult worship. Those nights changed my life, and from the looks of the surviving photos, they might have ruined yours in the best way.
For years, Midnight Mass only existed in the fogged‑up memories of the people who were there: you, me, Martiny, Squeaky, Troll Girl, Heklina, Peggy, Mink, Tura, John, Elvira, and a rotating cast of sinners, saints, and scream queens. Now, I want us to drag those memories out of the crypt and give them a proper home.
What is the Midnight Mass Archive?
Think of the archive as our sacred vault—a living, breathing digital record of the shows we created together at the Bridge Theatre, the Castro, and beyond. It’s a place where:
Posters and flyers can live side by side like relics in a deranged museum.
Photos of zombies in the aisles, queens on roller-skates, and Joan Crawford look‑alikes wielding axes finally get the spotlight they deserve.
Grainy video clips of pre‑show numbers, Q&As, and illegal stunts prove that yes, those things really did happen onstage.
This isn’t just a scrapbook of my “career”; it’s a shared history of all the heathens who showed up to worship at the altar of trash, horror, and queer cinema. If you were there, you’re part of this story.
Why I Need Your Help
Here’s the honest truth: we didn’t always have a competent archivist on staff. Sometimes the only documentation of a show is a torn flyer, a blurry photo from a long‑dead phone, or a VHS tape sitting in someone’s closet next to an old corset and a severed mannequin head.
That’s where you come in.
If you ever attended Midnight Mass—at the Bridge, or later our shows at the Castro, or any of our satellite rituals—you might be holding the missing pieces of this history. I’m talking about:
Photos (from your camera, your phone, your ex’s phone you never deleted).
Video clips of performances, introductions, interviews, or audience shenanigans.
Posters, programs, ticket stubs, postcards, or any strange flat thing we used to promote a show.
Personal stories that help us date an event, name a guest, or remember which year Martiny was eaten by a demon and still made it to the curtain call.
Even if you think what you have is “too small” or “too blurry,” I promise you—it might be the only record of that moment.
How to Contribute to the Cult
If you’re ready to help resurrect the history of Midnight Mass, here’s how to join the cause:
Dig through your old hard drives, shoeboxes, photo albums, and junk drawers.
Gather any Midnight Mass artifacts you find—digital or physical.
Email us at midnightmass@peacheschrist.
com with: Your name
What you’re sharing (photos, video, poster, etc.)
Any details you remember: year, venue, film, special guests, notable disasters
If you’re willing, let us know whether we can include your materials in the public archive and how you’d like to be credited.
We’ll be carefully cataloging everything, cross‑referencing dates, and building out the timeline and galleries over time. This is a long‑term excavation, not a one‑and‑done project, so don’t worry if it takes you a while to unearth that box under your bed.
What You’ll See As the Archive Grows
As new materials come in, we’ll be:
Filling in the year‑by‑year timeline so you can click into a specific season and revisit exactly what played, when, and with whom.
Pairing posters with photos and video, so a single night can be experienced from the lobby to the final bow.
Annotating shows with notes, guest lists, and fan memories—clearly labeled when we’re relying on the congregation’s recollections versus official documentation.
My goal is for future cult members to be able to explore Midnight Mass the way you once experienced it: as a chaotic, communal ritual where drag, film, and fandom collided after midnight.
A Final Blessing (and a Nudge)
Midnight Mass existed because you kept showing up. The archive will exist because you’re willing to share what you kept—on film, on paper, or in your heart.
So if you have anything from those nights, big or small, polished or messy, please send it to midnightmass@peacheschrist.
Until then, my children—stay filthy, stay faithful, and remember: the show starts at midnight.
