Legendary San Francisco-based drag superstar Peaches Christ has mothered a number of notable drag children over the years, among them Jinkx Monsoon and Bob the Drag Queen. But she only has one boy: actor, musician, and filmmaker Thomas Dekker. Now, Dekker has immortalized that matriarchal act of chosen family by writing a new song, fittingly titled ”Child of Christ,” performed by himself and Christ; the duo also appear together in the sexy, provocative music video, directed by Dekker.

Dekker and Christ’s creative partnership dates back to 2009, when Dekker was cast as the male lead opposite Natasha Lyonne in All About Evil, Christ’s feature-film debut as writer/director Joshua Grannell. At that point Dekker was already a 15-year veteran of TV and film who’d been working from a very young age, best known for hit series like Heroes and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles; however; his experience working with Christ had a profound impact on him.

”As an artist, I owe so much of myself to Peaches Christ and the world of courage and creativity she brought me into at the age in which I needed that community most,” Dekker says.”’Child of Christ’ is a punk-spirited ode to Peaches’ legacy, an emblem to her decades of boundary-pushing queer art, and a heartfelt homage to her 15-year presence as my Drag Mother.”

Longtime Peaches Christ fans will remember that original songs were once a regular part of her repertoire. ”I haven’t done a new song in a while, and Thomas and I have been talking about doing a collaboration together for years,” she muses. ”I merely had an idea to do a song and make some visuals, but Thomas took that popcorn-kernel of an idea with some music references I’d sent along and he crafted all of this. He’s given mother the most fantastic gift with this fabulous song.”

In addition to the single version of ”Child of Christ,” Dekker contributes a Club Mix, one of four remixes on the Child of Christ EP. It also includes the Probe 7 Mix by Brent Heinze, whose synth projects include Probe 7, The Axiom Divide, and Darling Kandie; and the Maternal Emissions Mix and Curse of Blood Mix by The End Audio, the production name of sound engineer Roman Chimienti, who specializes in film/TV post-production and co-directed the documentary Scream, Queen! My Nightmare on Elm Street.
